About
megan cook

I found pilates when I was teaching a kindergarten class that wore me down everyday. I needed somewhere to escape afterschool, and turn my brain off.

I became a member of Club Pilates and 5 years later I'm a comprehensively certified instructor starting my own Pilates Studio that caters to the often overlooked motherhood community.

When I had my first baby in 2023, I needed to continue my Pilates practice to help heal from postpartum depression, but I found it difficult as a stay at home parent to find the time around my husband's work schedule to make it to the studio.

What I learned is that stay at home parents, reliant on their partner for childcare, have very limited options when it comes to working out.

It is my goal and mission to create accessible spaces for parents to reconnect with their body through movement, and connect with a supportive community.

Children should witness parents dedicating time to themselves. By creating spaces for parents, where children are allowed to exist and bear witness to their parents commitment to taking care of themselves. Hopefully inspiring them to do the same.

I've had the wonderful opportunity of witnessing this with my girls, who now get to go with me to work and play "Pilates Class" when we get home.

Certifications

B.s. in early childhood education

This education focused on the developmental processes of children ages zero to 8. With this degree, I taught elementary school for 5 years.

I know children are capable of being in adult spaces, and I know children deserve the opportunity to exist freely in those spaces.

m.Ed. of curriculum and instruction

When I began my teaching career, I also continued with higher education by getting a Masters of Education in Curriculum. This degree is focused on data interpretation and creating effective plans to meet students where they're at and push them to where they need to be.

This degree has helped me in my Pilates teaching by making me more informed in my decision making when creating private personalized sessions. I know how to process what I observe and turn it into effective practices for what the individual needs.

Meet my family

The inspiration that inspired the expansion of Megan Cook Pilates.

Originally from Georgia, I moved to Jacksonville 11 years ago and met my husband shortly after (although we didn't start dating until years later).

We have found family and community in Jacksonville, and have a history of first dates, adventures, engagement, weddings and babies here.

In 2023, we welcomed our first daughter into the world, Dylan. You'll often see her at events walking around like she owns the place, and pretending to teach the class. She's my mini me and a complete chaos queen!

This year, we welcomed our second daughter, Devin, in February. She's been a healing presence in our family, and is the reason I've expanded my business so much this year. I love teaching Pilates but I love staying home with my baby, so I created these spaces where I can do both.
